In the early morning hours on July 12, a fatal collision occurred at the intersection of State Route 75 and Coronado Cays Boulevard, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist, the Coronado Police said in a press release.

The Coronado Police Department is currently investigating the incident and released preliminary details: Just before 7 a.m., officer assigned to traffic enforcement observed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed in a northbound direction on State Route 75.

The officer initiated an attempt to stop the motorcyclist for the traffic violation. However, the motorcyclist failed to yield and instead accelerated away from the officer.

Collision at Coronado Cays intersection

Regrettably, as the motorcyclist approached the Coronado Cays intersection, a collision occurred when the motorcyclist struck a vehicle that was crossing the intersection.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the traffic officer immediately requested medical assistance and began administering first aid to the motorcyclist, police said.

The motorcyclist succumbed to injuries at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle struck by the motorcyclist was not injured in the collision.

Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this incident, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased motorcyclist, the police department said.

Investigation underway

In order to determine the circumstances leading to this tragic collision, investigators from the Coronado Police Department are actively collecting evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses.

Due to the collision and subsequent investigation, traffic in the area was affected for over two hours.
