The roads around Star Park hosted the 32nd annual MotorCars on MainStreet car show on April 30, with an estimated 15,000 spectators getting a close up look at pre-1973 classics, hot rods and trucks in central Coronado, organizers said.
The show was held as part of Coronado MainStreet’s mission to support the downtown business community and create a community event.
Topo Chico, Discover Coronado, Cumming Chevrolet, and the City of Coronado sponsored the event, and proceeds help support activities for Coronado MainStreet, a non-profit organization focused on enhancing Coronado’s downtown.
The event also included live music by Maria Christina, Tommy Price & The Stilettos and DJ Paul Palombo provided entertainment.
Emerald Keepers, Fast Lane Drive & Epic Exoticz partnered with Coronado MainStreet to exhibit a display of EVs and Exotic cars, organizers said.
The event also included a raffle with more than 100 prizes, with items donated from the Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado Island Marriott, Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Glorietta Bay Inn, El Cordova Hotel, local restaurants, and local merchants like Holland’s Bicycles.
Co-Chairs Bill Gise and Tim Shortt coordinated the event, which included 75 volunteer judges.
The Best of Show trophy went to Perry and Judy Mansfield’s 1967 Ferrari GTC, while John Turpit’s 1965 GT35 Mustang Shelby won the “Mayor’s Choice.” The “Bad to the Bone” trophy went to Billy Conner’s 1955 Chevy.
The 33rd edition of MotorCars on MainStreet is set for April 28, 2024.
