The Coronado Public Library has a host of free events starting today – and they are all free.
The first is a vintage valentine’s concert with Gregory Page, 2021 San Diego Music Award Album of the Year Winner.
It will be at 1 p.m. today, and doors open at 12:45 p.m. for the Winn Room performance.
Page will share original music from his prolific discography delivered with his unique voice and finger-style guitar artistry.
London born, Southern California resident Page is an eclectic, prolific, genre-bending performing songwriter, balladeer, recording artist, filmmaker, art activist, music producer and published poet.
With an extensive discography, Page has toured the world many times, having performed in a wide range of iconic venues such as London’s 02 Arena, headlining the main hall at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, and
playing at international music festivals such as Woodford & Manly.
A third-generation musician, Page grew up surrounded by family members who performed and recorded traditional Irish music.
His parents were musicians who met while touring with their respective bands, The Beat Chics and The Martians. Page draws from imagination and experience in the traditions of folk, Celtic, American roots, jazz, ragtime, blues, swing and French Romanticism to form his own signature idiom.
The event is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Coronado Public Library.
Coronado’s Hidden Black History Talk
Local historian Kevin Ashley will give a presentation, with historic photos, of Coronado’s little-known Black history at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the library’s Winn Room.
This program is projected to be full, and admission will be first-come, first-served until room capacity is reached.
This program is happening concurrently in the library with an exhibit of books that relate to the lives of Coronado’s pioneering Black residents from 1887-1921 in the library’s exhibits corridor near the reference desk.
The exhibit and presentation are presented in partnership with the Coronado Historical Society.
Ashley’s presentation focuses on his Coronado Black History Project, which documents the lives and experiences of Coronado’s African American community from 1886 to the present.
