Coronado’s track team competed in the final league match of the season on April 16, with the Islander boys and girls defeating Kearny and Crawford.

The girls’ team also beat Madison, and the boys lost by two points, 58-60.

Sophomore Ah’Mahn Oliver led the charge for the boys, taking first place in the 100-meter dash. He also was a part of the 4×400-meter relay team that took first, along with the 4×100-meter relay team that finished second. Seniors Nathan Ayan and Oscar Alicandri brought home first-place finishes for the Islanders in the 1600- and 3200-meter races, respectively. And in his first time running the 300-meter hurdle event, senior Spencer Reidarson was victorious.

The girls did their fair share of winning as well. Senior Summer Little won the 100-meter dash and took second in the 200-meter dash. Junior Maya Wilson took home the 300-meter hurdles and placed second in the 400-meter dash. Junior Lily Humphrey placed first in the 1600-meter run.

Sophomore Claudia Wagner leapt a personal best of 31-feet, 10-inches in the triple jump to win the event. Junior Grace Messner made her debut in the discus, throwing 81-feet, 3-inches to place third.

Humphrey, along with juniors Edie Alicandri, Carly Devore and sophomore Ava Schlomer wound up winning the 4×800-meter relay as well.

The girls team took the league champ title in the Central League. The boys finished second.

A few varsity runners went on to compete at the Jaguar Invitational at Valley Center High School on April 18.

Most notably, junior Davin Collins tied the school record in the 100-meter dash, running it in a brisk 11.06 seconds. Collins’ time is good enough to place him second in the Central League. Collins also proceeded to run a leg in the 4×100-meter relay team that placed third with a time of 43.50 seconds.

Wilson competed at the Jaguar Invitational and ran a personal best time of 46.96 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles, good enough to win the event. In only her third time running in the event, Wilson sits atop the Central League.

Reidarson also performed well in the same event, winning his heat with a personal best time of 43.69 seconds. Reidarson also leads the Central League after only two times running the event.

Sophomore Noah Jones emerged victorious in the boys’ long jump, leaping 21-feet, 9.5-inches, putting himself in second in the Central League and first in all of San Diego CIF among sophomores.

A small group of Islanders runners went to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays, hosted at Mt. San Antonio College.

A boys’ 4×800-meter relay team composed of seniors Vincent Russo, Andrew Buck, Derick Ritter and Ayan set a new school record in the event, posting a time of 8:11.24.

Junior Xavier Marsh proceeded to win his heat in the 200-meter Paralympic with a personal best time of 23.04 seconds. Ayan also participated in the 800-meter race, posting a time of 1:59.41 seconds.
