On Feb. 28, the Coronado High School track team competed in the Elmer Runge Invite at University City High. Five Islanders runners put up personal best (PB) times.
Seniors Vincent Russo and Andrew Buck each set PBs in the 800-meter run and finished third and eighth, respectively. Russo finished with a time of 2:00.42, and Buck wasn’t far behind, at 2:02.67.
Junior sprinter Maya Wilson was another highlight of the meet, putting up two PB times in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Wilson’s times were 12.88 and 26.02 seconds, respectively. Her 200-meter dash time was good enough to win the open division heat.
Senior sprinter Davin Collins was among the five who posted PBs. His was in the 100-meter dash, as he ran it at 11.10 seconds, which placed him ninth.
Collins was also part of a 4×100 relay with junior Xavier Marsh, senior William Heyen and sophomore Noah Jones. The group posted a time of 44.75 seconds, enough to finish in seventh place, despite an error on one of the baton exchanges.
Micaela Gistaro, another senior sprinter, finished fifth in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash, with times of 12.75 and 26.37 seconds, respectively.
Marsh also competed in the men’s 200-meter dash and put up a PB time of 23.18 seconds, finishing in seventh place.
Freshman Landon Nesbitt, finished 28th in the discus in his first high school meet, throwing it 91’11”. Nesbitt did this from a standing position, without a spin or preparatory motion.
