On March 19, the Coronado High track and field team headed to Crawford High School for its first league meet of the season. Coronado was among City Conference Central League rivals: Crawford, Kearny and Morse. Coronado fared well, and the boys’ 4×100-meter relay team posted a record time for Coronado.

The Islanders took the top three spots in the boys’ 100-meter dash. Sophomore Ah’Mahn Oliver led the way with a personal best time of 11.42 seconds, followed by junior Xavier Marsh and senior William Heyen in second and third with personal best (PB) times of 11.52 and 11.67 seconds.

Oliver and Marsh both went on to finish second and third in the boys’ 200-meter dash, both posting PB times of 23.22 and 23.23 seconds, respectively.

Additionally, senior Davin Collins posted a time of 51.50 seconds in the 400-meter dash, good enough to place him second.

In the 4×400 relay, Oliver and Marsh were joined by senior Nathan Ayan and Mason Gibbs. The foursome won the relay with a time of 3:34.49.

Just like the boys, the girls’ for Coronado swept the top two spots in the 100-meter dash. Little wasn’t far behind with a time of 27.34 seconds, enough to place Little in third.

Senior Micaela Gistaro was among the Islanders that won their event as well, as her 60.40 second time in the 400-meter dash propelled her to first place.

The Islanders’ dominance continued in the distance events.

In the boys’ 800-meter dash, Ayan and senior Vincent Russo took the top two spots, running impressive times of 2:13.20 and 2:13.71.

As for the field events, the Islanders were led by senior Spencer Reidarson, sophomore Jeremiah Albrektsen, sophomore Noah Jones and sophomore Claudia Wagner. Each of the four won their respective events.

Perhaps most impressively, the boys’ 4×100-meter relay team of Marsh, Collins, Heyen and Oliver not only won the event but posted a Coronado record time of 43.98 seconds. The previous record of 44.22 seconds had stood since 2000.

Many of the same winners and participants in the league invite also shone in the Jim Cerveny Invite just two days later at Mission Bay High School on March 21.

Wilson went on to win the 200-meter dash for the second meet in a row, posting a time of 26.48 seconds. She also ran a PB time of 59.52 seconds in the 400-meter dash, which was good enough to get her second place.
