Diamond League Pickleball, an organization that provides pickleball programming and competition, is set to host its first tournament in San Diego. The tournament, called the San Diego Open, will be held at Coronado Cays Park in December. The exact date is to be determined.

“Our main goal is to host well-run tournaments that make players feel like they’re competing at a professional-level tour event,” Louise Datu, a league and tournament director for Diamond League, said via email. “We focus on delivering polished and fun experiences that raise the standard for local pickleball tournaments.”

Players will be divided by skill level and player ratings for the tournament. The participant’s rating system is scored from 1-5; the higher the number, the better the player. Saturday will consist of men’s and women’s doubles brackets, and Sunday the 3rd will continue men’s doubles as well as mixed doubles.

“Players of all skill levels are encouraged to sign up,” Datu said. “We offer multiple divisions so that everyone — from newer players to seasoned competitors — can find the right level of play and enjoy fair, challenging and fun matches.”

Diamond League is based in the Los Angeles area but is looking to grow their community, with their next two tournaments being hosted in San Diego and Santa Barbara.

“By partnering with Impact Activities, we want to create an event that builds connections between LA and San Diego players, raises the level of competition, and delivers the kind of quality, camaraderie and fun that makes people want to come back year after year,” Datu said.
