11 Friday: The Coronado Public Library will be hosting The Waylon Hicks Project — a musical powerhouse fusing jazz with the classic funk. The free concert will take place at 1 p.m. in the Winn Room.

16 Wednesday: Capt. Ralph “Rafe” Arnott, retired U.S. Navy, will present a lecture on the Battle of Leyte Gulf at 11 a.m. in the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library. The battle was the final major fleet operation of World War II spanning over 100,000 square miles and involving nearly 300 ships. This conflict resulted in the loss of 26 vessels and more than 400,000 lives.

16 Wednesday: Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents Film Forum Coronado, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.

On July 16, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” will be the two presented films.

20 Sunday: Art in the Park will take place in Spreckels Park on July 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 50 top artists in San Diego County, in every genre, will display their artwork, providing the community the chance to converse directly with the artists.
