I used to watch the National Geographic show Unlikely Animal Friends with my kids. The series would feature the cutest pairings of creatures we always got a kick out of because they were so different. That’s the beauty of animals — they see beyond the surface.
This Border Colllie named Meeko has a bestie you wouldn’t expect. Though the two don’t seem like they’d have much in common, they’ve developed quite an unbreakable bond.
@firstdatejunkieIf this unlikely friendship doesn’t make your heart melt— I don’t know what will 🖤 Animals are amazing! I could watch them all day long 🥹 #russupdate #pettok #unlikelyanimalfriends #dogsoftiktok #babycrow #bordercollielife
In the TikTok from @firstdatejunkie, Meeko was lying on the grass with a black crow by his side. The crow, who goes by the name Russ, is Meeko’s BFF.
“My Border Collie became best friends with a crow,” the onscreen text explained as the two were hanging out together in the grass, and shared details on how their relationship transpired.
“What started as curiosity quickly became an unlikely friendship,” the story continued as clips showed the Border Collie and crow staring at each other and slowly gelling.
“Now they’re bonded. They follow each other everywhere. They hang out all day together,” the text noted as the heartmelting montage revealed how the two play chase (Meeko running, Russ flying — they make it work!) and just enjoy each other’s company.
The two will often seek each other out if the other isn’t around. The crow tends to look for his buddy through the glass window if Meeko isn’t outside. “Russ will even knock on the door to see if Meeko is home,” the text pointed out, showing Russ standing at the door looking inside. “Just a dog and a crow — best friends now. Animals are amazing.”
Border Collies are renowned for their herding abilities. They can also be quite loving and show affection in a variety of ways:
- Staring at you intently
- Nudging you with their head
- Licking your face
- Following you around all day
- Leaning into you.
These are just a few signs of affection that Border Collies give their loved ones. Though it’s probably safe to say Meeko doesn’t lick Russ (though you never know), the precious pooch shows he loves being with his bird buddy.
