Cockatoos are crazy by nature. There’s no way around the fact that a Cockatoo is just kind of bonkers, but there are certainly some who take their goofball status more seriously than others. They have a job to do and they do it well.

Recently, I found the Cockatoo who may just take her goofball status the most serious of all. When her mom says the right words, she goes absolutely bonkers, and it’s just about the funniest thing I’ve ever seen:

Ayla the Cockatoo is certainly crazy, but I do love that she waits for her cue. She’s not entirely bonkers!

Ayla is 21 years old, and she’s had quite a life so far. She was hatched and immediately adopted into a family who loved her a whole lot, consisting of 2 parents and 3 kids. However, when a divorce happened, her mom got sick, and the kids couldn’t take her, Ayla moved into a foster-type situation.

She was given to someone who promised to give her back in 10 years, but in an awesome turn of events, they were able to reunite after just 7 years! What a dream: she was always loved and cared for, and she returned to her rightful mama in good shape.

She’s also insane. That’s not necessarily a product of her home situation: she’s always been like that. She’s special, however, in that she waits for her mom to say, “she’s crazy! be careful!”

Pets train themselves based on things we say: that’s just a fact. For example, we may never teach our dog what “Starbucks” means, but if they know we usually say it before they get a pup cup, they’ll build that association in their minds. Any animal can do that, and most do!

So, when Ayla would hear her family warm people that she was crazy growing up, she learned that “crazy” meant how she’d puff up and squawk. Eventually, she started doing it whenever they mentioned how crazy she was, and their giggling only reinforced it as a good trick.

It doesn’t get cuter than this. She’s just so sweet!
