Though it would be so nice, it’s kind of impossible to take your pets on vacation. They also probably wouldn’t like it very much, seeing as the entire point of going on vacation is to get out, do things, see things. If we took our pets, they’d probably get overwhelmed and scared!

That’s why we leave them behind, but that’s not necessarily easy, either. They treat that like we’re literally never going to come back… When we do, their relief is palpable. On Wednesday, June 3rd, one Cockatoo let mom know just how grateful she is that she came home:

@porschathecockatooPorscha was clearly very pleased with mommy and daddy returning from Florida! What would we do without this pretty little baby in our lives 🥹🤍 #foryou #goodfood #healthy #talkingbird #umbrellacockatoo #birdtok #cockatoo #parrot #discover #animalsoftiktok #fyp #porschegt3 #cockatiel #macaw #porsche911 #viral #bestfriendsforever

Porscha the Cockatoo is so sweet. She missed her parents so much while they were away, and she’ll never let them forget it!

Porscha is so sweet. She gets to go tons of places with her parents when they’re at home: she has a purple leash that she wears. She loves to go out and look at everything there is to see, but there are just sometimes when it’s not feasible. For example, their trip to Florida.

It was only 5 days, but for Porscha, it might as well have been a lifetime. She was left with someone she trusts and had plenty to keep her busy, but she didn’t have her parents. Everything else was basically for nothing! She’s about to drag them back home, kicking and screaming.

Going on vacation can legitimately turn an animal’s world upside down, but they will get over it eventually. It’s not unusual for a pet to give you the cold shoulder when you return from a long vacation: they feel like they don’t recognize you. They may even feel threatened.

If you want to speed up the “cold shoulder” process, you can try:

  1. Making sure you’ve showered before you interact with the pet.
  2. Walking in with a “peace offering,” like a treat or a toy.
  3. Giving them tons of attention when you return.

After you get back, it usually takes a few days or so for your pet to feel like everything is truly back to normal. There was not cold shoulder to be found here, though: Porscha just wanted a snuggle!
