Dogs like Labrador Retrievers have little trouble making new friends. Whether they’re meeting people on the street or animals on the farm, they have an uncanny ability to form lasting connections.

This outgoing Labrador Retriever, Colonel, is a true social butterfly. He quickly won over his new buddy, Bunker the baby Water Buffalo, and now they appear to be old friends who have known each other for a lifetime.
Bunker doesn’t seem to mind one bit as Colonel lounges across his neck while he digs in the sand. And he was happy to enjoy a nap while he rested his head on his dog pal’s back, clearly feeling safe and completely at ease. These two couldn’t be more chill, or cuter if they tried!
This isn’t Colonel’s first unlikely friendship. Turns out, he’s also BFFs with a camel. Yep, you read that right. Check out their sweet bond in this equally adorable clip:

Why dogs form bonds with other species
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs are highly social animals that often form bonds based on shared routines, positive interactions, and physical closeness, regardless of species. When animals are raised together or have regular, calm interactions, trust and affection can grow quickly, even between very different species. And the Colonel and his pals are evidence of that!
People couldn’t get enough of these unexpected friends. One viewer gushed, “Animal love is so pure and beautiful. An example to the world.” That’s for sure.
Another added, “This is too sweet. Bunker really feels safe with Colonel. I could watch this 100 times.”

Colonel and Bunker remind us that love doesn’t need to look a certain way; it just needs a little kindness, a lot of trust, and maybe a comfy place to nap.
