Has your dog ever done something completely unexpected? I know mine have surprised me more than once. Just last week, my French Bulldog mix managed to snag a bunny on our walk, while secured on only three feet of lead. Thankfully, the rabbit is fine, but my heart is still recovering.

For Harvey, a lovable rescued Pit Bull, his moment of chaos came when he chased a squirrel over a six-foot fence, clearing it like an Olympic hurdler. Though he never caught the fluffy-tailed escape artist, the real challenge was getting him back home.

Check out this hilarious video shared on May 13 to see Harvey’s squirrel-fueled escape.

This adorable Pit Bull must have been hiding springs in his feet, just waiting for the right moment to deploy them. Fortunately, Harvey (@harveytherescue) landed safely, but it was within a fenced yard of a closed business, with no gate access.

But with some creative thinking, a determined uncle, and a trusty chair, Harvey was airlifted back over the fence. But the cutest part was the way he gave out kisses to his uncle and dad along the way. Who’s the best boy?

How high can a pit bull jump?

It’s not uncommon for athletic dogs, such as Pit Bulls, to leap impressive heights. According to Dogster, many dogs can jump up to three times their height, meaning some strong and agile breeds can jump fences six feet tall or higher, especially when driven by instinct or excitement.

Pet parents could relate. @everybodylovesleer shared, “My dog jumps over our 6ft fence chasing lizards she’ll never catch… thankfully, my neighbors are amazing and understanding.” That helps!

Another reported, “My dog, Whiskey, did that right when we moved to a new house in 2015. We couldn’t find her because her 28-pound self had jumped over two 6-foot fences in pursuit of a squirrel. At least new neighbors found it funny.” Having good neighbors is everything!

While the squirrel lived to tell the tale (and probably taunt again), this epic leap won’t soon be forgotten. It’s just another reminder that life with dogs means staying on our toes and always watching for critters.
