Hilton announced the appointment of Marco Tabet as general manager of the Hotel del Coronado on May 12 following his six-year tenure as general manager at Conrad Punta de Mita in Nayarit, Mexico.
“My goal at The Del is to continue to cultivate a culture where guests want to return year after year and where team members feel pride in the work they do every day,” Tabet told The Coronado News.
Boutique Hotelier reports that it is thought Tabet is replacing Sanjiv Hulugalle, the former general manager, who left the position in August, according to his LinkedIn page, after serving for less than one year.
Hilton did not immediately respond to requests for comment about Hulugalle’s departure.
“Stepping into the general manager role at the Del at such a key moment in time provides me with a truly unique opportunity,” Tabet said. “I am grateful to my predecessors for guiding this hotel through its revitalization and my vision is to do justice to this stunning resort and the beautiful community that surrounds it by introducing enriching new guest experiences and programming and supporting our hard-working team in delivering ever increasing levels of service.”
Tabet manages the daily operations and overall strategic direction after the hotel’s six-year-long, $550 million upgrade project that includes new dining experiences, a reimagined spa and expanded fitness facilities.
“His extensive background across luxury Hilton properties worldwide brings invaluable expertise as The Del enters its next chapter,” the resort said in a LinkedIn post announcing the change in leadership this month.
Tabet holds over 20 years of global hospitality experience across several Hilton properties.
“We are excited to welcome Marco to the Hotel del Coronado team,” said Harold Rapoza, area vice president of operations for Hilton and a former general manager at the Del, in a statement.
Tabet has been general manager at Hilton Los Cabos, Hilton Lima Miraflores in Peru, and Waldorf Astoria Panama. He also managed operations and food and beverage during his time at Hilton Los Cabos and British Colonial Hilton Nassau.
“His proven track record in leading exceptional luxury properties and concrete understanding of the global hospitality industry make him the ideal fit to lead The Del into its next chapter,” added Rapoza. “Marco’s leadership will continue to elevate the guest experience, and we look forward to seeing the innovative strategies he will bring to the iconic property.”
