In response to community concerns raised on social media, the public docks at Coronado Ferry Landing will now be accessible for longer hours.
Several Coronado residents noted on the Facebook group, Coronado Happenings, that the docks — marked as open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. — were still locked after 7 a.m., causing frustration for boaters hoping to dock and visit local businesses.
“This is outrageous. The Port Authority needs to correct this stat,” one commenter wrote.
Others expressed concern over the limited number of public docks in San Diego and the importance of maintaining open access, especially during the busy summer season.
According to Brianne Page, public information officer for the Port of San Diego, the Ferry Landing Marketplace is responsible for managing and maintaining the docks under a lease agreement that allows both public and commercial use.
“As a result of public feedback, the public hours for the docks have been expanded from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily,” Page said. “Updated signage has been posted. Ferry Landing management has also addressed the issue of the dock gates not being unlocked periodically during open hours. We are told the issue has been addressed with onsite staff.”
The Ferry Landing Marketplace could not be reached by The Coronado News on deadline.
While the Port of San Diego does not directly operate the docks, it confirmed that management was made aware of the access issue and has since taken corrective steps.
