A 5.2 earthquake hit Julian at around 10:08 a.m. this morning and sent shakes and shivers throughout San Diego county, including Coronado.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), it happened around 2.5 miles south of Julian and at about a depth of just under 9 miles. The quakes were felt all the way up to as high as Thousand Oaks and down past Ensenada in Mexico.

Coronado Police Department’s Public Affairs Officer, Lea Corbin, confirmed that there have been no reports received from the police department or the fire department regarding damage.

Over this past weekend, there were recordings of earthquakes occurring in Julian and other parts of Southern California, but this morning’s shake was recorded to be the highest over the last few days.

USGS reported at least seven aftershocks since the main event, but stated on their website that “aftershock rates will decrease over time, but may remain elevated over the following year or longer.”

A few Coronado residents took to Coronado Happenings to document their experience saying that car alarms went off and that the Coronado Shores apartment buildings were quaking.
