The Coronado Unified School District governing board adopted tentative district calendars for the next two years that would mean classes start earlier in August and end earlier than in the past.

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 18, in the approved 2025-26 school year calendar, with school ending on Thursday, June 4.

The following school year, 2026-27, begins Monday, Aug. 10 and ends on Friday, May 28.

Those changes, which were approved by the Association of Coronado Teachers, are designed to push the first term to end before winter break.

Teachers with continued employment will receive a $750 stipend the first year and a $1,250 stipend in the second year as compensation for shortened summer breaks.

The district said the number of school and work days remain the same.
