Get ready for one of the most adorable cases of mistaken identity you’ve ever seen! On a farm, a pair of newborn twin lambs arrived, and while one is cozily snuggled up with their mother, the other has found comfort in an unexpected place—right beside a giant, fluffy Great Pyrenees, seemingly convinced the gentle pup is their mama or daddy.

Just look at how sweet this Great Pyrenees dog is to the little baby lamb!

The adorable video was shared to the TikTok account for @nealcookii, and people are applauding the paternal instincts of this sweet Great Pyrenees. One person said, “He’s not the Stepdad, he’s the Dad who stepped up.” Another person spoke for the little lamb and said, “If not mom, why mom shaped?”

Someone else replied, “In the lamb’s defense, I can see where the confusion may have come from.”

Someone else spoke for the dog, who is named Bolt, and added, “Bolt would like to call Maury to confirm paternity before taking any responsibility, financial or otherwise.”

If you, like me, have also decided you absolutely must have a baby lamb, spoiler alert, we cannot have one. To learn the sad reasons why, keep reading.

Do lambs make good pets?

If you always swoon over social media posts featuring adorable lambs and think to yourself, okay, that’s it, I need my own little lamb, you may wish to re-think that. Lambs just don’t make the best pets.

Sure, if you have a farm or plenty of land and are prepared for the commitment, they can be friendly and enjoyable animals. But you need a lot of room for a lamb, and they can’t really live in an apartment or a regular suburban backyard. According to Raising Sheep, sheep don’t make good backyard pets, and depending upon the zoning laws where you live, it may not even be allowed. Plus, they require things like fresh grass or hay to eat.

Sheep are herd animals and need to be with other sheep in order to be happy and healthy, so you can’t just keep one cute sheep around. If they don’t have sheep friends, they can get anxious and lonely. Plus, you need a veterinarian who knows how to care for sheep.

So if you have the space, veterinary access, and, are willing to make the commitment to care for a sheep for 10-12 years, go for it. The rest of us just have to swoon over these sweet babies on social media.
