Do you have a childhood toy or blanket that holds a very special place in your heart? These trinkets from when we were little mean a lot to us, and the thought of anything happening to our favorite stuffy or toy can be really stressful. And it’s a feeling dogs can relate to.
In a super funny video shared on social media, a Border Collie makes it abundantly clear how much her toys mean to her—and how fiercely she’ll protect them.

On January 9, 2025, TikTok user Liv Wallace (@livwallace_) shared the video of her Border Collie, who felt a very strong need to protect her toys while her dad was putting logs into the family’s fireplace.
According to the caption, the family keeps the stack of logs next to the Border Collie’s toy box, which is why she’s being so protective of her toys. She’s working hard to protect them, running the toys one-by-one to the other side of the room, not realizing that it’s the logs her dad is always reaching for.
People had lots to say about the cute pup and her panic over her toys.
One wrote, “The fact that she realizes the fire makes them go away forever is so smart, though,” and another shared, “He’s burning the sticks, hide the rest of the toys!”
Another TikTok user explained a similar story, adding, “I threw out a few of my dog’s old worn-out toys right before Christmas to make room for new ones. She panics every time I get near her toy box now.”
Border Collies are pretty much always watching
The sweet Border Collie would not let her human dad out of her sight, and that’s part of her nature.
According to PetPlan, Border Collies were bred to be shepherd dogs, so they’re used to keeping their eyes on moving targets, such as her dad, who’s adding logs to the fireplace.
“This highly intelligent, graceful dog is born with an instinct to work and responds extremely well to training, which is why they are often used as a mountain rescue or sniffer dog,” the site explains.
PetPlan describes Border Collies are “intelligent, energetic, [and] alert,” which is exactly what we see the toy-worried pup do in the video. This breed loves to be in the middle of what the family is doing and is always full of energy.
The American Kennel Club agrees, describing Border Collies as “energetic, affectionate, [and] smart.” They also note that this breed needs to have something to do, or it may become a little mischievous.
“On the move, Borders are among the canine kingdom’s most agile, balanced, and durable citizens,” the club notes. “The intelligence, athleticism, and trainability of Borders have a perfect outlet in agility training. Having a job to perform, like agility or herding or obedience work is key to Border happiness.”
There’s no question this adorable Border Collie is so observant and intelligent, understanding that the fireplace makes things disappear. And it’s cute to see how much she loves all her toys.
