Adding a puppy to a family where you already have an adult dog (or multiple dogs) is a little nerve wracking, to say the least. It’s hard to tell if your grown up dog is going to love their new little sibling right away, or if you’re accidentally starting a war under your own roof. But with all of the love and joy that a new puppy can bring — not just to the humans in your household, but (eventually) to the dogs who will now have a playmate — it’s usually worth it to roll the dice.
It can also be a little iffy introducing a new puppy to your friends’ older dogs, especially since you don’t know them quite as well as you know your own dogs. And while the introduction between the Aussie puppy and his new, older friends went well… it’s clear to see someone was a bit more excited than the others.

On Monday, November 18, dog mom @chaoswithkoda shared this adorable throwback video of her Australian Shepherd, Koda, as a puppy, meeting his BFFs — also Aussies — for the very first time. Of course, Koda was so much smaller than all of them back then, but he had twice as much energy to make up for it!
At first, Koda sat there calmly in someone’s lap as the adult dogs came to check him out and give him a few interested sniffs. But before long, Koda was off and running, chasing the bigger dogs, who all seemed a bit taken aback by how fast he was.
His mom compared him to a “hopping potato” and she’s absolutely right. Who knew dogs could move like that?
A whole gang of Aussies
Koda is now two years old, so he’s a lot bigger than the hopping potato we saw in the Instagram video above. But fortunately, his burst of energy didn’t scare his friends away, because they’re all still close.
In fact, they got together to celebrate Koda’s second birthday (with cupcakes!) earlier this month, and they’ve had plenty of other adventures, too.
Not only did they celebrate Halloween together, but they also take baths together and even just play outside together. At this point, the three of them are inseparable, and I’m willing to bet their parents might not have predicted this judging by how their first meeting went!
That little baby (and all his energy) truly did win them over. But looking at that face, how could he not?
