The County of San Diego issued closures for the Tijuana Slough, Imperial Beach, Silver Strand and Coronado shorelines on July 18 due to findings of bacteria levels exceeding health standards the day before. Staff photo by Madeline Yang.

A public health forum on healing and advocacy in response to the Tijuana watershed pollution crisis will take place on Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. at Mendoza Elementary School in San Diego.

The forum will be a moderated discussion between Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre and Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, the pediatrician who brought the Flint water crisis — a switch in water distribution in Flint, Michigan that caused lead to enter drinking water — to the national spotlight.

Register online. Doors will open at 9 a.m.
