The Coronado High School cross country team competed in the Ian Cumming/Tim Latham Invite on Sept. 6, an event that drew in nearly 1,800 runners.
The event, which until 2018 consisted of two separate and distinct cross country meets hosted by former Otay Ranch High School head coach Ian Cumming and former Sweetwater High School head coach Tim Latham, was held at Rohr Park in Chula Vista.
Over 50 teams were randomly split up into two separate divisions – with the Islanders competing in the Red Devil Division. Due to the heat wave, all races were 2 miles long.
The top two boys’ performances for the Islanders came from Nathan Ayan, who placed 8th in the boys varsity race with a time of 10:52, and Jack Letcher, who ran 11:01 for 13th place.
The girls took home a 3rd and 4th place finish in the varsity race, with Morgan Maske coming in at 13:00, followed closely behind by Gwynne Letcher at 13:06.

The Islanders’ next race is scheduled for Sept. 21 at Morley Field for the Sundevil Invite.
