“Tommy’s first time on a kayak,” the video caption says, and it looks like Tommy and their parent had the best time out on the water.

The video starts with Tommy watching his dad who is getting their kayak all set up. When it’s all set, dad drags the kayak into the water and Tommy–who is wearing a life jacket–follows him and jumps into the kayak.
The cute Staffy takes in all the sights as he sits on the kayak while his dad rows. When they get close again to the shore, Tommy jumps out of the kayak and goes for a quick swim. When he’s done swimming, Tommy heads back to the kayak, and his dad helps pop him back up on the boat.
It looks like they had the very best time together and Tommy didn’t seem phased at all about being on the kayak while his dad took him along on the ride. And he seemed as happy as could be while swimming in the water during the hot day.
In the comments, people were thrilled to get to see this cute look into Tommy’s first time on a kayak ride.
One wrote, “Tommy so adorable swimming in the water, those little leggies just moving, he’s loving his kayak ride.”
Another shared, “He is so damn cute! That little butt wag is hilarious! I love me some Tommy!”
Someone else added, “Taking the seal back to his natural habitat. Seriously though the way he’s perched on the front like a handsome little lookout, what a boy.”
Another joked, “Tommy would paddle through hell fire and brimstone to get to you.”
One shared, “And I’m positive it won’t be his last time either.”
Important water safety tips for your dog
It’s cute to see Tommy the Staffy in the water and having a great time with his family. Thankfully, they were observing some important water safety tips for dogs, including that life jacket. But there are some other tips the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society suggest when going near water with your dog.
“Not all dogs are good swimmers and are at a greater risk of drowning!” the experts share. “Don’t assume your dog will be fine in the water, and never leave your dog unsupervised by any body of water. Swimming is also very tiring, so make sure your dog takes breaks and has rest periods.”
Other tips including the life jacket include watching for sunburns, swimming only in fresh water that is not stagnant.
“Blue-green algae, specifically, can endanger the life of your companion animal. This algae forms on or near bodies of water during warm weather months,” the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society explains.
“It can be found in ponds and lakes, fresh water, backyard fountains, or even on rocks. Your dog can be affected if they drink from or swim in contaminated sources.”
