Overview:
Following the success of the Fashion Valley location, Fox Restaurant Concepts opens their second Blanco Cocina + Cantina in Coronado this month.
A block away from The Henry, a sister brand in the Fox Restaurant Concepts portfolio, Blanco Cocina + Cantina will be opening their doors on July 17 to the Coronado community.
“We’ve decided we want to grow our business here in the San Diego area,” founder of Fox Restaurant Concepts, Sam Fox, said. “The Henry has done so well here in Coronado for us that when the building became available in Coronado, we thought that would be an amazing spot for Blanco.”
The menu boasts a wide range of options from the Tucson chimichanga, to tacos, to their specialty cheese crisps. Their cocktails are another large part of their menu, which includes a lineup of margaritas.
The restaurant will also offer some location-specific perks in Coronado, including a to-go window selling burritos and tacos for all beach goers and city strollers. Not to mention, the to-go option is available for margaritas too.
“I’m looking forward to people coming in the door [with] smiles on their faces and coming in and having a margarita, eating good food,” Fox said.
“We feel like there’s an opportunity for another Mexican restaurant here, and we’re excited to be part of the community.”

This will be the ninth Blanco restaurant nationally in the Fox family and their second Blanco establishment in San Diego, according to Fox.
The restaurant planting company started out of Tucson, Arizona, where the founder grew up immersed in the Sonoran style of cuisine, about an hour from the Nogales border city.
“I grew up on Sonoran style Mexican food in Tucson,” Fox said. “Obviously, some of the influences that we have on the menu have been things in my family for a long time.”
Fox said the Fox Restaurant Concepts is located in 16 states. And they have 13 different brands in their portfolio. One of the other brands planted in California is Flower Child in Del Mar.
What made Fox choose Coronado as their next spot was the opportunity to tap into the vibrant community of both locals and tourists.
“I think people love Mexican food, especially when they come to visit,” Fox said. “Between the locals and all the visitors, who doesn’t love margaritas, a little guacamole and chips and salsa? We feel like there’s an opportunity for another Mexican restaurant here, and we’re excited to be part of the community.”
Blanco Cocina + Cantina opens July 17 at 1301 Orange Ave. Lunch and dinner service will be daily Monday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
As a result of miscommunication there were two errors in the previous version of the story that have been corrected. The story incorrectly identified the number of Blanco locations. The Coronado location will be the ninth Blanco restaurant. The story also identified the wrong entity that is located in 16 states. Fox Restaurants Concepts is located in 16 states.
