We can’t help it if we’re around when a sweet little animal needs some help. What are we supposed to do, leave it there? No one is going to do that, it’s just not plausible.
On Wednesday, June 12th, one wife got to witness this firsthand. She left her husband alone outside for 10 minutes, and next thing she knows, he’s telling her a harrowing tale of rescuing a baby bird right before it got eaten by something much bigger. Now, there’s a good possibility they’ve become parents:
@ambrypackIdk wtf to do😂
Ambry Pack must have a lot of fun with her husband. Something tells me he does things like this on a semi-regular basis – he just looks like an adventure guy!

Right off the bat: she put in her bio that, since this video, they’ve decided to take the baby bird (which was found to be a baby oriole) to a wildlife rehab center so he’ll have a good chance at survival. As is typical with TikToks like this, the comments were pretty divided: half of them wanted the couple to keep the bird as a pet while the other half were practically begging them to turn it in.
According to her husband’s description of events, the baby bird was in a nest that was actively being attacked by a snake. Unfortunately, the snake had already made a snack of everyone else in the nest, but he came in just in time. After he subdued the snake, he rescued this baby bird. And, all of this happened in 10 minutes while his wife was inside.
The bird sustained no injuries, but even so, it’s a wild bird and its care was best left to professionals, so they sent him off to a rehab. I hope they’ll at least be able to update us with pictures moving forward!
When to intervene and when to let nature take its course
While horribly sad and probably not at all fun to watch, what was happening to that nest is just the reality of what happens in the wild most of the time. Though it’s not what we want to see, the snake was only feeding itself – wild animals don’t have the same notions of “good” or “bad” that we do.
In the heat of the moment, if a human sees a snake making a meal of a nest, of course we’re going to intervene and save one of the babies if we can. However, as dark as it may be, the technical right thing to do is simply to let the snake do what the snake is there to do. They have to eat somehow!
It sounds like the snake in this story had a pretty full belly by the end, so saving one bird was definitely not going to be life-or-death. It’s warmer now, so food is plentiful! If you can stomach it, though, it’s always best to just turn away and let nature take its course.
