Raising big cats is a courageous endeavor. These magnificent creatures, as they grow, place their unwavering trust in their handlers. However, their immense size and weight present a constant challenge, even in moments of affection.
Don’t believe me? You will, after seeing this giant cat giving love to his favorite person. Take a look at this unexpected sight in a video from May 28:
Snuggling a cat the size is a hazardous job! At first, I could barely discern the human being underneath this gorgeous wild cat. It became even more frightening when I realized Sirga was happily rolling on top of her dad. While she may have only been trying to show Valentin (@valgruener) her love, her massive and powerful size makes that somewhat risky. It only worsened when she got up and tried to nuzzle him with her enormous head. Oh, boy! That could’ve been a concussion. No wonder her dad tells us that these affectionate cuddle sessions are workouts for him.

Sigra and the Modisa Wildlife Project
Valentin rescued Sigra the lioness when she was just a 10-day-old cub. As she hadn’t been raised with her own pride, releasing her into the wild was not an option. Instead, the team at Modisa Wildlife Project and their supporters secured nearly 8 miles of fenced-in land for her to roam freely. This semi-wild lioness, they inform us, sustains herself by hunting her prey. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy her dad’s company, with whom she has an unbreakable bond. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind adventure, you can visit them in Botswana. In addition to taking exciting bush walks, you’ll be able to learn about all the local wildlife and nature surrounding you. You will also have the unique opportunity to contribute to their conservation efforts by assisting with firebreak and boundary fence projects. What a great educational trip for wildlife enthusiasts and eco-tourists!
People had questions about this majestic cat. Viewer @losgatos_pam inquired, “So much love right there. Does Sirga do any commands? Like lay down or stay?” Valentin responded, “She doesn’t know any commands. At least I never trained her to listen to any. But she knows my tone of voice very well. She doesn’t like it if I don’t speak in English (but who enjoys listening to German, lol), and she definitely understands some words like no, or that’s enough.” That’s enough; is probably an essential command if the cuddle sessions get a little too intense.
This beautiful land and its creatures are indeed a sight to behold. A visit here is now at the top of my bucket list.
