The Storybook Inspirations program offers one-on-one 30-minute sessions where trained volunteers film participants reading a children’s book aloud for a child. The sessions will take place in the Digital Media Lab of the library from 10:30 to 12:30 a.m.

19 Wednesday: Teen Summer Reading events happen every Wednesday at 2 p.m. during the Summer Reading Program from June 17 to August 17. 

On June 19, participants can create a secret book box. Decorate a wooden box shaped like a book to make a secret hidden compartment that will blend in with your bookshelf. Teen events are for those entering or finishing grades 6-12. This program is sponsored by the Jim and Bette Sherman Fund.

19 Wednesday: The Coronado Public Library in collaboration with the Coronado Island Film Festival presents Film Forum Coronado on the first and third Wednesday of every month. The event takes place in the library’s Winn Room at 6 p.m.

The film expert, Ralph DeLauro, will provide a brief introduction to this week’s film “Defending Your Life.” This is followed by a discussion, often including pointers on how lighting and camera angles can contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.

20 Thursday: You can learn how to grow your own fruits, vegetables and herbs at home with this lesson from UCCE Master Gardener Heather Holland. This class, at 11 a.m. in the Winn Room of the library, will discuss which vegetables can be grown in San Diego County during the warm summer months and how to irrigate and harvest produce.

Holland has been a Master Gardener since 2012 and volunteers for the Master Gardener Association of San Diego County. She was the county’s Volunteer of the Year in 2020.
