Dog beds, if you have a dog who loves them, are like potato chips. You can’t just stop at one, and luckily, you don’t have to. It seems like every single establishment sells at least one dog bed, and it’s almost important to try them all! How can you be sure what your dog likes?

Different shapes, textures, and fillings can all contribute to a dog’s decision when they’re figuring out their favorite bed in the house. As of Monday, May 20th, Costco’s hexagonal dog bed was winning people’s hearts:

Costco Buys has to stop posting things like this. My wallet is actually weeping. I need this!

This hexagonal dog bed is actually called a “Pet Napper,” which is a little bit awesome. I could definitely see a cat or even a small goat enjoying this bed! It’s a pillow-style dog bed, which means there’s no climbing to get in; perfect for smaller or senior pets! As fun as donut-style beds can be, they can be a little bit challenging for some pups. The fact that there are no walls also makes it great for two pups to share!

The shredded-foam-filled bed measures 42″Lx42″Wx7″H, so there are tons of breeds that can fit on it, especially if they like to curl up when they’re asleep. If you have a super big dog, they might have a hard time, but they’ll probably have fun anyway!

Are flat dog beds better?

For as many types of dog beds as there are, they really break down into two categories: flat, pillow-style dog beds and beds with some form of a wall. Costco offers both options, as do most stores that carry more than one dog bed, but it can be hard to decide which is better.

Technically speaking, pillow-style dog beds like this one offer more bed to lie on. While the dog can curl up if they want to, it’s also easier for them to stretch out flat, even on smaller beds, which offers them more options. As we can see here, you can get flat beds in several different shapes and sizes!

However, there is something special about a basket-type dog bed, especially for smaller dogs. They tend to prefer to curl up when they sleep to conserve their body heat, and the support of the bolsters provide them with some support.

Unfortunately, sleeping like this for a prolonged period may also cause a dog’s back or limbs to ache. If you want to bring a donut-style bed into your home, make sure it’s a little (or a lot, depending on how extra you are) bigger than your dog so they can uncurl after a while. Luckily, it seems like Costco has one of everything, and typically in very large sizes!
