The Coronado Public Library’s annual Summer Festival will kick off on Saturday, June 1 at 1 p.m. with a concert by Durell Anthony, a top 40 contestant on season 20 of “The Voice.”
Anthony will perform a mix of classic and contemporary pop/R&B hits featuring songs by Stevie Wonder and John Legend.
Anthony not only had the chance to work directly with John Legend on NBC’s “The Voice,” but he has also collaborated with prominent industry figures, including Carrie Underwood, Karl Denson, Kevin Fluornoy and Paul Wall.
Doors to the Winn Room at the library will open at 12:45 for his performance.
Starting June 14, the festival will feature concerts every other Friday at 1 p.m. This year will feature pianist Bobby Cressey, The Young Lions Jazz Conservatory, percussion by Ian Harland, blues by San Diego Award Nominees Zavala Sol, surf rock by the Red Fox Tails, and will conclude with a swing concert by the Sue Palmer Trio.
In addition, June will feature lectures on the Battle of Midway and summer gardening in San Diego as well as author visits by Carly Fortune and Dawn Tripp. July will see author Kate Quinn launching her new book, a book binding workshop and a plant based cooking demonstration.
August brings a class on quilling and an Sumi-e Asian brush painting workshop. For more information, visit cplevents.org.
