The Coronado High School Track and Field team participated in their last City League meet on April 18.
The Islanders’ last 2024 season meet took place at Crawford High School and competition featured Christian High School and the host school’s teams.
Race finish results and orders will stand, but cannot be considered for record or ranking consideration because this meet used a manual timing method for the running events instead of fully automatic timing, said CHS track and field head coach Cameron Gary.
Notable April 18th performances include:
- Sophomore distance standout Nathan Ayan notched a four-second victory in the varsity boys 800-meter run, with a winning time of 2:09.4.
- In the varsity girls 300-meter hurdles, Lindsey Balsley won with a time of 49.5 seconds. She went on to win the girls long jump with a leap of 17’ 6”.
- Sprint event victories were led by girl sprint standout Lauren Gilhooly, who won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.7 seconds followed by Tatiana Potter and Summer Little, finishing in second and third place, respectively.
- Potter won the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 26.7 seconds.
- Sophomore Micaela Gistaro won the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 63.4 seconds and took second place in the 200-meter dash behind Potter.
- In the 100-meter dash, the Islander boys were led by Davin Collins running 11.1 seconds closely followed by Sean Groeneveld and Von Pritchett in 11.2 and 11.3 seconds, respectively.
- Sophomore Eddie Gonzalez made a PR (personal record) and exceeded 100 feet for the first time in his win of the boys discus with a throw of 103’ 7”.
- Leading the City League in the 4×400 relays, the Islanders were victorious with the girl quartet of Balsley, Potter, Gistaro and Gilhooly notching a time of 4:15.4. and the boys’ quartet of junior Jace Larson, senior Marco Velarde, Senior Rafael Roos, and Ayan running 3:33.5.
