There’s a reason Golden Retrievers are everyone’s favorite: they’re perfect. These pups are loyal, beautiful, and just enough fun to stay interesting. They love to exercise – and you have to love it, too. They need a lot of it!

One of the best things you can have when you have a Golden Retriever is a big backyard with lots of things for them to play with. On Monday, April 22nd, we got to see one mom going above and beyond for her boy by getting him a whole swing:

I love that @maxcoenthegolden actually knows how to work the swing. Who doesn’t love a backyard swing on a sunny spring day?!

Max, like many Golden Retrievers, has gained a pretty substantial following on TikTok. With just under 20,000 followers, all of Maxie’s videos have received a combined total of 800,000 likes – and he deserves every single one of them. His favorite hobbies include grumbling at his mom, going outside, and attending his doggy daycare. According to his mom, he is a little bit of a terror at daycare, too!

As spring rolls around, we’re all looking for ways to start taking our pups outside more often again. Through no fault of anyone’s, dogs tend to put on a little more weight in the winter since they don’t spend as much idle time outside. Regular exercise is still important in the winter, but it’s less likely to happen organically. Luckily for Max, his mom has thought of everything, including a cool place for him to rest!

Best outdoor dog toys for Golden Retrievers

In addition to a place to rest, Golden Retrievers need plenty of toys outside to keep them entertained. Some of the best toys you could get for a Golden are:

  1. Fetch toys (manual and automatic) since they love to retrieve.
  2. Sturdy chews that they can lie in the sun and gnaw on.
  3. Foraging toys that will promote mental engagement.
  4. A small pool (a kiddie pool will work). They’re approximately half mermaid!

Despite being super intelligent and independent dogs, they were bred to be hunting companions. They thrive on praise and human companionship, so you need to devote plenty of time to getting outside and playing with them. While they don’t have the strongest jaws, Maxie is living proof that they can and will shred their toys whenever they see fit, so they need to be supervised!

A swing is a great option for a clingy dog in particular: the wind it generates can help keep them cool and the motion can even be soothing to them. Before purchasing a swing, though, make sure your dog doesn’t get motion-sick!
