This video sort of shot me back to my childhood in a really fun way. Just like this adorable Corgi who can’t contain his excitement over his date to McDonald’s with dad, I also recall that sense of excitement as a kid.

But we’re here to talk about this happy little pup, and when he hears the words “ice cream” he knew exactly what that meant! In my opinion, the process of getting his sweet treat is what really steals the show, though. Have a look:

I love how Archie’s little eyes light up when dad asks the question. He’s like, “Duh!” You can seriously feel his excitement as he rides shotgun with his little face out the window. Pure bliss. And like all videos I see of pups patiently waiting in drive-thru lines, Archie can’t help but lick his lips and sniff, sniff, sniff away! Can you imagine all the delicious smells entering his nose?

Like all dogs who devour these sweet treats, Archie goes to town on that cone like it’s nobody’s business. And while it might not be the healthiest thing for our pups to consume, sometimes we just need to treat them, you know? Plus, that euphoric look on his face says it all: “Thanks Dad!”

Alternatives to ice cream for dogs

It’s no secret that dogs go crazy over things like pup cups and ice cream. I mean, I should say all sweet treats, but still… the point remains.

However, sometimes even if offered in moderation, certain ingredients inside these tasty human treats might be a little iffy. Fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives to your pup’s favorite treats that aren’t just on the healthier side, but will still spark the same excitement in your furry friend when consuming.

For one, freezing some fat-free plain yogurt has been known to be a great alternative to things like ice cream. It contains much less lactose, which means your pup will typically be able to digest it much easier.

However, always beware—while yogurt can be easier for them to digest, not all dogs can tolerate it. And you want to avoid “commercial” frozen yogurt as well, since it’s loaded with sugar.

Another nifty alternative some dog parents have discovered is blending up some bananas and freezing them. Not only is this a safe alternative for your pup, it’s nutritious all the same! Total win-win.

And hey, since we’re on the subject, you should know that Ben & Jerry’s offers a frozen, nondairy desert made specifically for dogs as well. Made from sunflower seed butter, they have a few flavors for your furry friends to enjoy on those days they deserve a little something extra.

For the record, I know that pup cups and even McDonald’s cones can be fairly harmless in the grand scheme of things. Plus, getting in the car and driving there is half the fun!

But if you’re a pet parent searching for some healthier alternatives, keep these in mind the next time your day calls for an ice cream party. Chances are your pup won’t even notice the difference!

Well… maybe…
