As pet parents, we have no problem going above and beyond when it comes to making sure our fur babies are happy and comfortable.

I just love Corgis. I love how dramatic they are. And while some dogs absolutely love the rain, this goofy little pup clearly needed a little extra protection from those deadly drops. It’s adorable how she keeps looking up at mom, too. She’s like, “Are you still there? Okay good. Keep going.”

My question is: did someone craft this thing up? Or is this clever contraption something that pet parents can buy for their pups? Because I don’t know about you, but my dog needs one of these. He hates the rain (and I don’t love walking with an umbrella) so this would be an absolute game changer!
Tips for walking dogs in the rain
Daily exercise is an essential part of keeping our dogs happy and healthy, even when it’s pouring down rain.
It’s normal for pet parents to question whether we should be walking our pups in the rain, but experts from pet care specialists Pets at Home and Vets4Pets say the short answer is yes—although there is some guidance that we should be mindful of when the weather is wet.
“It’s completely safe to walk dogs of all breeds and sizes in the rain. It’s actually important we make sure our pets are still getting their daily exercise, even in wet weather,” says Dr Karlien Heyrman, Head of Pets at Pets at Home.
“But there are some things we should watch out for and extra steps we can take to help keep them happy and safe when it is raining outdoors.”
One thing to keep in mind is while it’s fine to walk your dog in the rain, you should try to avoid getting them completely drenched.
Just like we’d put on our coats for a walk in the rain, you might want to consider a doggy raincoat to protect dogs from the weather and prevent them from getting soaked through.
However, just because doggy rain gear looks cute, doesn’t mean your pup is going to appreciate its purpose. Only put them in clothing if they are happy to wear it and always make sure they are comfortable before you set off.
Also, puddles might be fun to splash in, but they can actually be pretty dangerous. While you won’t be able to avoid them completely, it’s best to be wary of large, deep puddles as it’s difficult to know what’s below the surface, potentially leading to injured paws if there’s anything sharp hiding at the bottom.
When the walk is over, be sure to dry your pup thoroughly afterwards as well. While they might have a good shake to dry off, it’s important to thoroughly dry your dog when you get home from a rainy walk.
Use a towel to dry off their fur and be sure to squeeze excess water out, rather than rub, to avoid any matting.
And if all else fails, do your best to stimulate them inside.
If your dog really isn’t a fan of wet weather, or if it’s particularly bad rain, you can consider shortening their walk and replacing it with indoor fun to keep them active and stimulate their brains. They’ll certainly love the bonus playtime.
