Owners spend time contemplating before bringing another dog into their family. Will their current pooch enjoy having a sibling? Will they miss being the only child? To answer this question, one must take a chance.

Fortunately, dogs are social pack animals. Exceptions aside, most enjoy having a friend for play and cuddles. The newest addition to this family is a perfect example of how beautifully it can work out.

Witness the family’s joyful transformation in this January 14 video.

The sweet story Kate @itsmrangus tells almost makes me want to get a puppy. She and her husband share the story of bringing their first dog home in June 2022. Since his arrival, they report, “He completely changed our lives. And made our house a home.” After 18 months of being an only child, they felt it was the right time to find a sibling for Angus. This good boy, they reveal, “Is a social butterfly who loves company,” so in October 2023 they brought home their newest family member, little sister Olive. She’s a little doll!

How it started and how it’s going

This introduction appears to have gone splendidly! Angus has a new, adorable buddy who admires him. And Olive instantly fell in love with the gentle new big brother. They now enjoy playing tug-of-war together, snuggling with each other in bed, running side-by-side in open fields, and running along the beach. What wonderful memories they are making already! They are without question a perfect match. This good boy is probably helping to teach her how to be a good girl, too. When the first one behaves well, it’s easier to train the next one.

Pet parents shared their own stories of success. Viewer @DeanCiacchella responded, “We got a brother and sister black female and yellow male changed our lives. Now 3 years old, we will pick up their little brown brother in March.” That will bring some fun energy into the mix. Viewer @KateBrown remarked, “We did the same, but in 2020 and 2021 with our two chocolate boys. Best decision ever!” Many like having a full-time friend. Viewer @BrendaSecrist responded, “I did the same with Chocolate Labs and, oh my gosh, they are best friends!” Although some dogs are loaners, most enjoy loyal companionship.

Watching these two beautiful dogs grow up will make each day of their parents’ lives fuller and brighter. Their gift keeps on giving, asking for so little in return.
