This absolute gem of a video was recently shared by @peteythetalkingdonkey on TikTok and it’s bound to melt even the coldest hearts. I want you all to meet Petey, a precious, hard-working ‘seeing eye donkey’ who looks after Luna, his adorable horse pal who is unfortunately blind.
As the clip begins, we see cute little Petey casually making his way into the barn, stopping and turning his direction back outside a few times. Not long after, we see Luna’s head appear and Petey patiently waits for her to get a little closer. “He’s looking to see if she’s coming,” the on-screen text tells us. What happens next couldn’t be sweeter.

From there, Petey makes his way into one of the stables, and all the while, Luna listens closely to his footsteps, which allows her to safely direct herself inside. “She can do it from here,” the video assures us. And about a moment later, Luna makes her way into her stable safe and sound.

What I love the most—well, honestly, I love everything about this video—is that Petey still casually peeks out of the stable to make sure Luna is okay. He clearly takes his job very seriously and he does it in such an affectionate, selfless kind of way. This is raw companionship right here, and it’s as fascinating as it is heartwarming. Love in its purest form.
Petey also helps Luna go outside
Petey’s duties don’t simply include this nighttime ritual however—he’s Luna’s eyes all day and all night. In fact, one of his favorite things to do is hoot and holler when it’s time for Luna to go outside as well. And it’s no surprise that he’s just as much of an ace at doing that as he is patiently guiding her back inside.
Personally, I didn’t even know that ‘seeing eye donkeys’ existed, but it makes absolute sense. Donkeys are extremely intelligent and are known to have a great ability to learn. They’re perfect for an important role like this.
A 2013 study by The Donkey Sanctuary found that they, “can learn and problem-solve at the same pace as dolphins and dogs,” which is obviously pretty interesting (and impressive).
Beyond Petey’s impressive ability to assist Luna, this story is simply a feel-good tale of compassion and friendship.
There’s no shortage of emotion in the comments, either.
“That was so sweet. That made me feel so good,” one person wrote.
And a handful of others mentioned how this was simply, “the sweetest thing ever.”
But I’d say the most common theme was the fact that this unlikely friendship brought tears to all of our eyes.
