The Avenue of Heroes ceremony will be returning this year to Coronado on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Founded in 2014, the program was started by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2422, the Third & Fourth Streets Neighborhood Association, the Coronado Historical Association and city officials.

The Avenue of Heroes is a military service recognition program sponsored by the city. It honors the men and women who currently or have lived in Coronado during their military careers.

Nominations are accepted on a continuing basis and the public is encouraged to nominate a deserving veteran, living or deceased.

Banners commemorating those selected for the Avenue of Heroes ceremony are displayed along Third and Fourth streets from Orange Avenue to Naval Air Station North Island.

This area has been designated the “Avenue of Heroes.”

How to nominate

There is just one eligibility requirement that has to be met in order to be honored in this ceremony.

Nominees should be past or present Coronado residents – living or deceased – who served or are serving in a branch of the US Armed Forces.

A nominee is considered a resident of Coronado if they presently reside or previously resided within the city limits, including being stationed at Naval Base Coronado.

If you have someone in mind you want to nominate, you can fill out a nomination form and email it to aoh@coronado.ca.us or bring to/mail:

City of Coronado Avenue of Heroes, 1825 Strand Way, Coronado, CA 92118.
