For the last 42 years, the annual Celebrate Coronado event has honored local police officers, firefighters, lifeguards and city employees for their hard work and dedication to the community.
This year’s celebration will take place at Feast & Fareway from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 4.
Awards will be presented to the first responder of the year as well as honors for the top city employee, police officer, firefighter and lifeguard.
At last year’s event, the dedication of the city’s first responders was especially emphasized when the recipient of the fire award walked right off the stage (mid-award receiving) to address a call, according to Rena Clancy, executive director for the Coronado Chamber of Commerce.
“At the heart of our community is commitment and connection, and our first responders are incredibly committed…individuals that are always thinking about Coronado first.”

“At the heart of our community is commitment and connection, and our first responders are incredibly committed…individuals that are always thinking about Coronado first,” said Clancy.
Lewis Hardy Award
The Chamber also will give the highest honor, the Lewis Hardy Award, to someone in the community who has made a significant economic and community impact.
Clancy said a few examples of past recipients of the Lewis Hardy Award were Doug St. Denis, founder of the Coronado Island Film Festival, and Cathy Brown, president of the Coronado Summer Concert Series.
The Chamber also will honor milestone members who have been with the Chamber for many years.
Chance to say thank you
Attendees are invited to a three-course sit down dinner with a cash bar and gorgeous views, Clancy said.
She said the event sells out every year at a max capacity of 120 people. Tickets are $49 and can be purchased on Eventbrite.
“What people don’t realize about first responders, for police, fire and city employees, is that none of our major events could happen without the professionalism, teamwork and commitment from these absolutely amazing groups of people,” Clancy said. “It’s our chance to say thank you.”
