The Coronado Island Film Festival will be at this year’s ENVZN23 Urban Art Takeover on Sept. 2, a visual and performing arts festival that will transform warehouses, industrial spaces and other urban areas of the Commercial Street corridor in Logan Heights with multi-sensory art interventions by creatives on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.
ENVZN23 is designed to respond to the urban landscape of Logan Heights by integrating curated sound and theatrical lighting design throughout the festival.
Organized by Vanguard Culture, a nonprofit working to advance San Diego’s creative industry workforce, CIFF will screen a collection of animated film shorts from Director Randall Christopher. His shorts will be levering his sketch art and painting talents to bring stories to life through animation.
Through the night, an activation Sketch Party led by Christopher will be open to attendees.
Attendees can also design their own unique visual and performing arts lineup as the programming at ENVZN23 will change every 30 minutes with live dance, puppetry, theater and musical performances.
Tijuana-based multimedia artist MALU will also be featured at the festival with art installations with curated soundscapes as an exhibition.
ENVZN23 is a recurring event and will return during the year-long celebrations of World Design Capital San Diego – Tijuana 2024 for an audience of thousands of design professionals, art patrons and other culture-seekers from the San Diego-Tijuana region and around the world.
A VIP behind-the-scenes cocktail culinary experience is at 5 p.m. and the art exhibitions along with food and drink vendors start at 6 p.m.
CIFF’s screening of shorts followed by a Q&A will also be at 6 p.m. and their second screening of shorts and Q&A will start at 6:30 p.m. The showings will take place in the Stay Classy Cinema & Gallery.
The Sketch Party will be ongoing through the night until the festival concludes.
To enter the festival, there are two entry points: the Soap Factory at 2995 Commercial Street and the War House at 3191 Commercial Street.
