The production of Cotton Patch Gospel has been extended through Sept. 3 at Lamb’s Players Theatre.

Lamb’s Theatre is one of the region’s leading not-for-profit professional theatres, producing year-round productions in Coronado’s iconic Spreckels building.

With a live band of bluegrass musicians, the musical sets the gospels of Matthew and John in the American south as adapted from Clarence Jordan’s book, “The Cotton Patch Version of Matthew and John.”

Actor Tom Key first performed the musical as a one-man show in 1979 and the production had a successful Off-Broadway run in 1981 with added music and lyrics by Harry Chapin.

Bringing the production back again

After previously showing “Cotton Patch Gospel” in 1988, 1991 and 2003, Lamb’s said it was a good time to bring the show back again. Now, performance dates have been extended through Sept. 3.

Tickets range from $28 to $82 depending on the day of the week and the theatre’s seating section.
