Slow cooked meats, mouth watering appetizers and classic BBQ dishes with a Southern California twist are coming to the Hotel del Coronado this summer.

Opening mid-July, the Smokehouse & Bar will be located in the hotel’s historic Laundry Building, offering a top-of-the line culinary experience for customers.

Originally built in 1919, The Laundry served both the Hotel del guests and local residents of the island.

Five laundry delivery trucks could be sighted carrying laundry around Coronado until 1973, when service for the locals ended.

The hotel continued to use The Laundry for hotel needs and employees until 2018 with the building’s steam-powered equipment.

The restoration of The Laundry took place as part of The Del’s Master Plan in 2021. In addition to the original conveyor system hardware and brickwork, the Laundry will now host the Smokehouse & Bar.

Paying homage to the past

With indoor and outdoor dining areas, the restaurant promises customers the combined elements of a public smokehouse and lively bar.

Paying homage to The Laundry’s history, the architecture and development team conducted a nationwide search for a wooden bar, dating back to the 1880s, as the centerpiece of the restaurant. Bartenders will be serving prohibition-era cocktails.

Customers will be invited to dine inside the historic brick building, outside on the lawn or at one of the two private dining areas appropriately titled ‘Fluff ‘N fold’ and the ‘Board Room.’

Items on the menu will be delivered from an on-site food truck and smoker located on the lawn.

With Smokehouse & Bar at The Laundry, customers can look forward to a unique dining experience complete with dinner and drinks daily, local sourcing, and integration of historical elements.
