Wow, this is incredible! Right when she brought Marshall home, she trained him to ring a doorbell every time he needed to use the bathroom. By encouraging him to press the button every time they went outside, he learned that meant he could go use the bathroom. Soon enough, he was pressing it on his own when he needed to relieve himself!
When it comes to potty training your dog, consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are key. Be sure to take your dog to the same spot in your yard or designated potty area every time, as the familiar scent and repetitive behaviors will encourage them to go.
However, when accidents happen, never punish your dog. It can create fear and confusion which is counterintuitive to the training. Instead, reward and praise your dog when they use the bathroom in the appropriate area, using treats or verbal cues.
Eventually, with consistency, positive reinforcement, and patience, your dog will gradually learn where and when to use the bathroom, making potty training a success.
Potty training is a daunting task, so we are so glad that Marshall’s mom shared this awesome hack for training for our dogs. With these tips, there’s no chance of any more accidents in the house!
