The Coronado High School track and field team made its way to Mt. Carmel for the Field and Distance Carnival, where two Islander runners — Nathan Ayan and Vincent Russo — put up personal best times in the 800-meter run.
Both seniors ran the 800 in under two minutes, with Ayan posting a time of 1:57.69 and Russo dipping below the two minute mark for the first time at 1:59.63. Andrew Buck and Ziggy Raunig each ran the 800 as well, posting 2:05 and 2:19 times, respectively.
Two Islander freshmen competed in the 1600-meter race – Ayrton Reyes and Evan Russo – clocking times of 5:08 and 5:14, respectively. It was the first time either of them competed in the event.
In the varsity 1600, Raunig competed alongside fellow Islanders Sebastian Tamariz and Oscar Alicandri. Raunig ran the best time of the bunch, posting a 5:07. Tamariz and Alicandri finished within a second of each other, at 5:29 and 5:30.
Coronado had two representatives in the girls’ 1600, Carly DeVore and Lily Humphrey. DeVore led the way, running the mile in 6:17, with Humphrey not far behind, finishing at 6:25.
In the jumping events, the Islanders had three competitors. Noah Jones leaped 19 feet and five inches in the long jump. Liam Morocco and Trey Stallworth, competing in the same event, jumped 17-8.5 and 17-4.25, respectively.
