Birds are so commonly mistreated. A lot of people get birds without knowing any better, and they might not even understand that something is wrong until it’s too late. It’s devastating, and there are way more birds in need of rescue than you’d ever think!
Some lucky birds manage to make it out in time, and they’re always so grateful to be rescued. For those birds, that’s when life really begins for them. They may have lived entire years without ever living at all, but it’s okay. Rescue means new beginnings.
For one Cockatoo, this was more magical than anything he’d ever experienced before. He’d lived his entire life in a tiny cage, never able to experience fresh air. When he was rescued on October 27, he was literally crying with happiness over being able to be loved:
@georgethegoffinHe was in just a cage for most of his life. Now that he’s with us,We take him outside fairly often, holding him tightly. Currently trying to leash train him lol but He’s so great full and happy🥹 he likes hearing the birds chirp feeling the sun on him and he is enthralled with trees lol he stared at this tree for so long 😄 #goffinscockatoo #cockatoo #parrot #cute #bird
George the Goffin is going to live his best life now. Clearly, his new parents adore him! He’s a 50-year-old Goffin’s Cockatoo, and according to them, he lived most, if not all of his life in a small cage. He wasn’t really allowed out to fly, and he wasn’t interacted with very often.
He’s had a rough 50 years, and his now-parents were even told that they could have him, but he was really mean. However, they found out pretty quickly that he’s actually the sweetest. He loves to be loved, and luckily, that’s all he is these days. They can’t get enough of him!
Though he has a cage, it’s a massive cage full of toys and treats. For most of the day, you’ll find him outside, stealing things, biting his parents (lovingly), and begging for snacks. He’s even being leash trained right now so his parents can bring him out with them on walks!
Until then, though, he loves to steal oranges:
@georgethegoffinHe found the orange my dad left on the table 😂 #parrot #cockatoo #goffinscockatoo #funny #bird
I’m so happy for him. This cutie little bird deserves the world!
Birds need a cage
The idea of a bird being kept in a cage is not the problem here. Birds need cages: that’s where they sleep and where they go when you’re not able to play with them. However, they need a cage/life balance. They also need a cage that’s large enough to move around in.
If a bird is left in their cage for too long, they can become:
- Restless.
- Aggressive.
- Destructive.
- Depressed.
Captive birds, and especially Parrots, require a lot of human interaction every day to thrive. Without that, they’ll never be truly happy. Lucky for George, he’ll be happy forever now!
