Animals born paralyzed deserve every chance to enjoy life on their own terms. Just because they have obstacles to overcome doesn’t mean anyone should underestimate the power of the right mindset, a little determination, and a lot of resilience. If anything, these sweethearts could teach us a thing or two about thriving in the face of adversity.
All these things were proven when paralyzed Sheep, Kiki, took her motorized wheelchair out for a spin for the first time, with awe-inspiring results.
@ziggysrefugeY’all have had so many questions about Kiki, so let’s clear a few things up! 1️⃣ How long did it take Kiki to learn to drive her wheelchair? LESS. THAN. AN. HOUR. Yep, this girl was cruising the farm like she owned the place in under 60 minutes. 2️⃣ Was she born disabled? Yes. Kiki contracted a neurological virus called Cache Valley in the womb, which affects brain function and can cause seizures. But thanks to her incredible momma Debbie, she’s overcome so much and now she’s the first farm animal ever to drive a vehicle. (Yes, you read that right.) And y’all… she’s not just disabled. She’s not just overcoming neurological challenges. She’s SMART. Because of her special needs, she’s spent her life playing with children’s toys, light-up games, and interactive puzzles and it’s helped her learn English, recognize full sentences, and understand everything her family tells her. 3️⃣ “You should euthanize her.” Thousands of those comments have poured in almost exclusively from farmers. And you know what? That mindset is exactly why we keep sharing stories like Kiki’s. Just because a life isn’t profitable doesn’t mean it isn’t valuable. She proves them wrong every single day. Kiki doesn’t live here at Ziggy’s Refuge she’s our goddaughter, and we adore her whole family. Debbie and Barbara have created a life for her that’s nothing short of miraculous. And together, we’re dreaming up wheelchair options for other animals, like our Moko 🐑💙. Because when one life is given the chance to thrive, it opens the door for so many more. Animals like Kiki, Journey, and Moko matter. Their lives matter. Their joy matters. And if a disabled, neurologically challenged sheep can learn to drive a vehicle, maybe it’s time we rethink why we think we’re so superior to them. Thank y’all for loving Kiki. She’s got one hell of a team behind her. 🐑✨ Follow @dontforgetuspetus to watch this little girl’s incredible life unfold. We’ll be cheering her on, every step (and wheel spin) of the way. ♬ Positive background music such as play and games(1251730) – earbrojp
As explained in the caption shared by @ziggysrefuge, it only took the incredibly smart Kiki less than an hour to figure out how to steer her wheelchair by herself. Seriously, 60 minutes is all that stood between this sweet Sheep and freedom. With her new wheels, she can’t be stopped!
Born paralyzed from a neurological virus she contracted in utero, Kiki’s lived a life with altered brain function and seizures. Being “special needs” only strengthened this intelligent girl’s resolve to not just live, but show the world what she’s (and others like her) capable of.
She’s now the first farm animal EVER to drive a vehicle! Much of it is thanks to her caregivers, who’ve helped her overcome a lot.
“She’s spent her life playing with children’s toys, light-up games, and interactive puzzles, and it’s helped her learn English, recognize full sentences, and understand everything her family tells her,” the caption added.
This is such a feel-good piece of content that has thousands of people cheering Kiki on, me included.
“THIS IS DANGEROUS!!! Kiki could learn how to drive professionally and start an F1 career, become a successful driver, and have to travel 24/7 for cups,” one person joked.
“The tail wag does it for me,” another wrote. Another praised the amazing Sheep, adding, “Wow, she is an impressive little girl!!! And look how happy she is.”
To see more of Kiki zooming around the farm on her own volition, please go forth and enjoy this girl!
@ziggysrefugeY’ALL. I don’t usually repost other people’s reels on our page, but this one? I HAD to. Meet Kiki. I’ve followed this girl since she was a tiny baby, right after she was adopted by her incredible mom, Deborah. And today, when I got on social media and saw this, my jaw hit the floor. Kiki is driving herself around their farm in her very own wheelchair. Not pushed, not pulled driving. And when I tell you this made me the happiest person alive today, I mean it. Deborah and I have stayed in touch for years, and somehow she managed to pull off this surprise without even telling me! They built Kiki’s setup using a Quantum 6 human wheelchair, took off the seat, added a Booyah cart system, and tweaked it so Kiki can control the throttle and move herself around. And she’s THRIVING AND DRIVING! And y’all, I’m not just ecstatic for Deborah and Kiki. I’m fired up because this might be exactly what we need for Moko. Moko has a wheelchair, but navigating our terrain isn’t easy, and pushing him everywhere isn’t always practical. If we could outfit a chair like this with all-terrain tires, just like Kiki’s, we might be able to give him a whole new kind of freedom. And maybe, just maybe, if this works for MoCo… we could dream even bigger for Whitley. For Journey. For others. This could be a total game changer for our disabled animals. So here’s where y’all come in. We’re officially on the hunt for a gently used Quantum 6 wheelchair. If you have a lead, or if you think you can help us customize one like Deborah did for Kiki, let us know. I want to make this happen, and I know this community can do it. Let’s follow Kiki’s lead and see what kind of magic we can pull off here at Ziggy’s Refuge. Thank you Deborah for being a genius!!!! And for always going the extra mile for disabled animals. @dontforgetuspetus follow Kiki’s wild adventures here!!
If Kiki is smart enough to learn how to drive a vehicle in one hour, what else can she do? This just goes to show that the best teachers in life are animals like her. Always hopeful and ever devoted to living life to the fullest — no matter how the odds are stacked against them.
