A Coronado-based aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, along with the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, has been integral in impeding attacks from the Houthis in Yemen, decreasing missile launches by more than two-thirds and attack drones by more than half, according to an April 27 U.S. Central Command (Centcom) release.

Since the start of the operation, the carriers have struck over 800 targets, destroying air defense systems, advanced weapons manufacturing facilities and command-and-control stations.

U.S. strikes have also “destroyed the ability of Ras Isa Port to accept fuel which will begin to impact Houthi ability to not only conduct operations, but also to generate millions of dollars in revenue for their terror activities,” Centcom said.

Ras Isa Port is a fuel port in Yemen and is the second-largest oil terminal in the country. It was one of the main entry points for imported fuel into Houthi-controlled territory before being struck down by the U.S. military.

“These strikes have killed hundreds of Houthi fighters and numerous Houthi leaders,” Centcom relayed. “We are extremely proud of our well-trained and professional forces as they have effectively delivered precise and lethal strikes against Houthi military capabilities.”

The operations were conducted by a “robust assembly of forces,” including the Carl Vinson and the USS Harry S. Truman and their respective strike groups. The Carl Vinson was diverted last month from the Indo-Pacific region where it normally operates in the Red Sea to support the attacks.
