Coronado celebrated spring at the annual Coronado Flower Show April 12-13. Check out some highlights from the event.

Music floated from Spreckels Park and drifted down Orange Avenue on April 12-13. A live band rang in spring amid the blooms and blossoms competing for people’s choice awards and judged categories at the annual Coronado Flower Show.

The Coronado Flower Show is produced by the Coronado Floral Association with support from the City of Coronado. The flower show celebrated its 103rd year of gathering together some of the most elite green-thumb masters, floral novices and garden enthusiasts alike.

This event is the largest “tented” flower show in the West and one of Coronado’s longest-running traditions.

The theme this year was “Cirque des Fleurs.” It pulled inspiration from Coronado’s “tent city” history and the whimsical elements of a vintage Parisian circus.

Entries for the cut-flowers competition included bird of paradise, nasturtium, amaryllis and others.

Some of the orchid plants’ blooms spilled over the brims of their pots in the container-grown competition.

Lush succulents were entered in the container-grown cactaceae competition. The succulent arrangement on the right won a blue ribbon in the container-crown cactaceae competition.

Attendees and their kiddos could create bouquets at this tent. One family shows the bouquets they made in the kid’s area.

Children from local elementary schools participated in the competition with their “Zoo’s Who” art. “Zoo’s Who” is a creative activity where the kids make animal creations out of fruits and vegetables.
