The Laundry Pub, a casual bar and lounge created by the Hotel del Coronado, is shutting down less than a year after it opened for business.

However, it is not the end of that space, which was built as a laundry room more than a century ago.

But with one spot closing, two more restaurants will open up at the Del, according to Tipi Vyrasith, the director of food and beverage at the hotel. Although the closing of the pub is bittersweet, she said, it marks an exciting new chapter for the hotel. And there are plans to turn the Laundry Pub into a space for meetings and events.

“When we embarked on the resort’s restoration journey back in 2018, our vision for the historic laundry building always included its eventual transformation into a versatile event space,” Vyrasith said. “Throughout the restoration period, we’ve also been able to experiment with the space as a casual neighborhood hotspot as The Laundry Pub.”

She said she wants the space to enable the Del to host special occasions such as weddings and corporate events.

“But when one door closes, two doors open,” Vyrasith noted. “As The Laundry Pub wraps up its time at The Del, we’re preparing to introduce two fantastic new and permanent dining concepts including the world-renowned Nobu Del Coronado, set to open this spring.”

The Laundry Pub will have one last hurrah on Feb. 9 for the Super Bowl, starting at 2 p.m., before closing its doors on Feb. 10.
