After a long day of barbecuing, hanging out at the parade and tanning at the beach, Coronado Fourth of July will wrap up another iconic celebration with a colorful display of fireworks at 9 p.m.

For the past 75 years, Coronado has closed off the Fourth of July with a fireworks show. This year, the display is presented by Fireworks America and will be 18 minutes long with a grand finale that residents wonโ€™t want to miss.

โ€œThe firework show is kind of the way to cap off the long event-filled day,โ€ said Andrew Gade from the Coronado Fourth of July board. โ€œWe want as many people to enjoy the firework show as possible and itโ€™s viewable from most places in Coronado.โ€

The fireworks will be shooting off of the golf course along the Glorietta Bay, making the waterfront, City Hall area and the Coronado Boathouse the ideal regions for an unobstructed view.ย

Coronadians can tune into KYXY 96.5 while watching the show for a simulcast that will play synchronized music to the fireworks.

The show costs around $60,000 to put on with the cost of fireworks, licenses and security measures. Prior to July 4, a walkthrough is completed with the Fire Department and Police department to ensure the fireworks display meets all safety measures. Before sending off the fireworks, the Coronado Fourth of July Board ensures the surrounding waters in the bay are cleared.

PAWS of Coronado recommends residents take their own safety precautions before the fireworks show to ensure a safe Fourth of July for Coronadoโ€™s furry friends.

โ€œThe best thing to do is make sure your pet is secure and safe,โ€ said Jennifer Stein from PAWS. โ€œPut on some background noise for them and make sure your pet is microchipped. If theyโ€™re not microchipped, we can do it for you at PAWS.โ€
