Farm animals learn to live in harmony with each other, even when they are different shapes and sizes. Donkeys are often beloved companions of horses. While dogs are well-known loyal protectors of sheep and other livestock.
What isn’t as common is seeing a turkey play fighting with a dog. When it happens, it’s all kinds of special.

This sure isn’t something you see every day. Their mom TikTok user @coleyp might joke about being unsure if they’re playing or fighting, but it seems pretty clear. These two have become friends, playing together even better than some siblings.

The sounds coming out of both the dog and the turkey are priceless. This gentle pooch might make noise, but he’s very careful with his turkey friend. Even when the bird sticks his head into the dog’s mouth, the dog causes him no harm. Meanwhile, the turkey just keeps wrapping its head around the dog, until it jumps on his back. They are hilarious! I didn’t realize these birds could be so playful.
Signs would have been present if the turkey wasn’t playing. If agitated they may engage in pecking or kicking motions, especially if they feel cornered or provoked. If he was afraid, he may have puffed himself up to appear larger and more intimidating. They often accompany this behavior by fanning the tail feathers, which he wasn’t doing here. If the dog wasn’t playing, he would have tried walking away. However, he seemed content with enjoying this game with his pal.
Audience members love seeing these friends together. One viewer confirmed, “My Tom does the same thing to our one pup they love each other.” I did not know these birds were so spirited. Viewer @LeslieMoore responded, “Turkey is in love with your dog. This used to happen with one of my turkeys and my cocker spaniel.” That’s so interesting.
This unusual friendship is a great example of love knowing no bounds. Sometimes we find our best friends in the most unexpected places.
