Don’t miss out on these fun events in the community as September comes to a close and fall is in full swing.

The Coronado Public Library is hosting several events, including a book club and an art lecture and painting workshop.

And, get ready to “fall into fitness” with Performance Elite’s preview week and free training clinic.

26 Tuesday: The Best of the Best Book club is Coronado Public Library’s newest bookclub that discusses books that have won major awards every fourth Tuesday of each month. In September, the club is discussing “The White Tiger” by Aravind Adiga, which won the 2008 Booker Prize. Join the club at the library at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

30 Saturday: Art En El Parque: The Murals of Chicano Park Lecture and Painting Workshop is led by Dr. Alberto López Pulido, who is the founding chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies and has been on the faculty at the University of San Diego since 2003.

After a brief lecture about the history of the art at Chicano Park, you’ll participate in a hands-on workshop led by artist Maira Meza. Space is limited for the art portion of the event. Register at cplevents.org to reserve a spot. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Winn Room of the Coronado Library.

1 Oct., Sunday: Art in the Park at Spreckels Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. features more than 50 top artists in every genre including oil, acrylic, etching, wood and metal working, stained class and ceramics. The artists are from throughout San Diego County and will be presenting their work in Coronado, so the public can converse with the artists.

1 Oct., Sunday: The Avanti Flute Choir will feature works by Schubert, Chopin, Via, Faure, Piazzola, Rogers & Hammerstein and special guest Maria Haller at 3 p.m. in the Winn Room of the Coronado Library. A reception will follow the performance. Registration is not required.

7 Oct., Saturday: Performance Elite Presents “Fall into Fitness!” The coming fall and winter months offer a welcome switch in training gears to concentrate on power, flexibility, structural stability and balance.

The event is from 9 to 10 a.m. at Spreckels Park. Participants can learn how to utilize the changes in the season to become the best you can be and achieve your goals for 2023 and beyond.
